🐊 Crocoparc Agadir: Morocco’s Premier Crocodile & Botanical Park

Standing in the outskirts of Agadir, you aren’t just visiting a zoo; you are entering the open jaws of a legend. Literally. The entrance to Crocoparc Agadir is a massive, meticulously crafted crocodile head, a doorway that leads you out of the Moroccan heat and into a lush, prehistoric world.

Opened in 2015, Crocoparc is Morocco’s first and only crocodile park. It is a brilliant fusion of a wildlife reserve and a world-class botanical garden, home to over 300 Nile Crocodiles (Crocodylus niloticus).

Spanning over 4 hectares, Crocoparc is designed to recreate the natural habitats where these apex predators once thrived in Morocco (before they disappeared in the 1970s).

🏺 A Journey Through Five Themed Gardens

Crocoparc isn’t just for reptile lovers; it’s a botanical paradise. As you follow the 600-meter winding path, you’ll pass through five distinct “bio-zones”:

  1. The Blue Garden: Featuring rare blue-tinted succulents and the endangered Aloe suzannae.
  2. The Exotic Garden: A dense canopy of 50-year-old Ficus trees with spectacular aerial roots.
  3. The Aquatic Garden: Home to giant water lilies (Victoria amazonica) and a stunning collection of papyrus.
  4. The Tropical Garden: A lush, humid escape filled with bamboo, ginger, and hibiscus.
  5. The Cactus Garden: A tribute to the resilience of the desert, showcasing a massive variety of prickly shapes and sizes.

🐊 Up Close with the Nile Crocodile

The stars of the show are, of course, the crocodiles. You can observe them from safe, elevated walkways and glass-fronted pools:

  • Feeding Time: This is the park’s highlight. Watching these 4-meter giants lunge for their food is a humbling display of power. (Note: Feeding times vary by season and temperature.)
  • The Nursery & Lab: Here, you can see the next generation. The nursery houses baby crocodiles and eggs, offering a fascinating look at the park’s conservation and breeding efforts.
  • The “Treasure Cave”: A favorite for families, this underground gallery features interactive exhibits about crocodile biology and the history of reptiles.

🐢 Other Resident Wildlife

Beyond the crocodiles, the park has expanded to include several other fascinating species:

  • Giant Tortoises: Watch these gentle giants roam their enclosures.
  • Iguanas & Lizards: Spot green iguanas basking in the sun at the “Iguana Cave.”
  • Marmots & Birds: The park is also home to playful marmots and various exotic bird species.
